Puente de Dios is this relatively new climbing area in Mexico that people go to sometimes when they don’t go to Potrero. It’s far, about a 10 hour drive from ATX, 4 hours deeper into Mexico than Potrero. The climbing is on the hard side right now, but there are plenty of 10s and shorter routes to work on. Plenty for a Austin sport leader to amuse herself. Most of the routes are these overhanging jug haul rides, super long but a similar style to Austin limestone. Alex Catlin, Rick Rivera, UnBroken Joe, and others have taken part in bolting projects recently, and all give enthusiastic reports. R&I called it a “hot spot,” which supposedly means something.
Puente is preparing to host a little comp on July 5th, and surely a posse or two from Austin will head down.
There is a cool wordpress website up about Puente, and we will link it, but it might still be restricted access. We’ll also get some of the info from it for our Topos page.
In the meantime, if you would like to ditch the heat for a long weekend by heading into the mountains, we beckon you to Puente!
More info on the comp as we get it.
